What happened
On Oct 26, Anthropic released the Claude for Nonprofits plugin: a bundle of skills and connectors it says it built with about 30 nonprofits, from small regional teams to international organizations. It's aimed at the work that swamps small teams, especially with year-end fundraising starting.
Anthropic says more than 25,000 nonprofits use Claude, and more than three quarters of them have fewer than 10 seats, so this update is mainly aimed at small organizations.
What's in it
Fundraising is the biggest part. Claude can research donors, foundations and companies and surface open grants with sources cited. You can forward it an RFP and get a breakdown of eligibility, requirements and what it would take to compete. It can turn an RFP into a requirements list and a first draft built from your own material, write grant reports that cite where their figures came from, and prepare briefs, thank-you notes and donor updates.
Two setup skills sit underneath. 'Map your organization' asks where you keep donor data, grant files, finances and policies, and every other skill reads that map first. 'Can I use Claude for this?' answers staff questions from your organization's own AI policy. There are also skills for campaign planning, job posts with interview guides, a new hire's first 90 days, and board recruiting and orientation.
Who gets it
Anthropic says the plugin is installed automatically, at no extra cost, for nonprofits on Team and Enterprise plans. Nonprofit plans are discounted by up to 75%, or about 90% for verified nonprofits in low- and middle-income countries. Anthropic also plans to extend its Claude Corps fellowship program through a partnership with Taproot, which would match nonprofits with pro bono consultants, and is running admin and staff webinars on Nov 10 and Nov 12.
What isn't confirmed
The results quoted in the announcement come from Anthropic's partner organizations and haven't been independently checked. The Taproot partnership is described as planned, not live, and Anthropic gave no date. Anthropic hasn't said whether the plugin will come to Free, Pro or Max plans. And like any AI research, the funder lists and deadlines Claude finds can be wrong, so check each one on the funder's own site.
What it means for you
If your nonprofit is already on a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, start the way Anthropic suggests: ask Claude to map your organization, then try one real RFP. If you're on Free or Pro, you can do the same workflow by hand with a Project, your own files and careful prompts. Our new playbook walks through it step by step, with copy-paste prompts for the organization brief, funder shortlist, go/no-go check and first draft.
