Napkin AI Tool Spotlight: turn your text into diagrams and visuals
A free Tool Spotlight from Found Motive. Every fact below comes from Napkin’s own pages and is linked, checked Oct 23, 2026: napkin.ai, pricing and the Napkin help center. Plans, limits and screens change, so check the pages before you rely on a number.
How we handled this spotlight. Napkin told us on Oct 23, 2026 that we were welcome to publish it. They did not pay us, had not reviewed or approved what we wrote as of that date, and we have no affiliate, partner or sponsor relationship with Napkin, so there are no affiliate links here. We have not run a hands-on test for this page; if that changes we’ll say so and date it.
What it is
Napkin describes itself as “a visual communication platform that helps you turn ideas into visuals and presentations.” It has two products, per its homepage:
- Napkin Visuals turns your text into diagrams, flowcharts, mind maps, infographics and data charts.
- Napkin Slides turns your ideas into a full presentation, built with an AI agent.
What it’s best at
Napkin says it works “directly from your text,” so there’s no prompt to write: you paste or import the text you already have and pick from the visuals it generates. Everything stays editable afterward: colors, fonts, layouts, icons and individual elements. That makes it a good fit for the jobs Napkin lists itself: blog posts, social posts, docs and slides.
Step by step: turn a written post or playbook into a visual
These steps follow Napkin’s Getting Started guide. Visual generation needs a computer; on a phone you can only view your work and create or edit presentations.
- Sign up at app.napkin.ai with Google or an email and password. The free plan needs no card, per the pricing page.
- Create a Napkin and paste in your text, for example the 5 steps of a playbook.
- Pick the part to visualize. Hover over a block of text, or select a few lines, and click the blue Generate Visual button on the left.
- Choose a visual. After a few seconds you get a list of options. Scroll, pick one, then pick a style.
- Edit it. Change the colors to match your brand, reword labels, move or remove pieces.
- Export it. Select the visual and click Export in the top-right, then choose PNG, SVG, PDF, PowerPoint or Google Slides (export help).
Tip from us: one idea per block of text gives you one clean visual. A list of 4 to 6 short steps is easier to visualize than a long paragraph.
What’s free and what’s paid
From Napkin’s pricing page, checked Oct 23, 2026:
- Free, $0: 500 AI credits per week, unlimited visual editing, unlimited file import (PPT, DOC, PDF, HTML, MD), unlimited PNG and PDF export, and Napkin branding on visuals.
- Plus, $9 per person per month: 10,000 AI credits per month, premium AI image models, unlimited PPT and SVG export, 3 brand styles, and removal of the Napkin branding.
- Pro, $22 per person per month: everything in Plus, with 30,000 credits per month, exclusive designs, unlimited custom branding and uploaded fonts.
- Credits are “approximately 1 credit charged per word selected for generation,” which Napkin says may change. Yearly billing saves 25%.
- Napkin’s help center says the free plan includes a limited PowerPoint export allowance, while Plus and Pro are unlimited.
Where it fits next to slide tools
Napkin Visuals is not a slide editor. It makes the picture, then you export it into the tool you already use: Napkin says you can drop visuals into PowerPoint, Google Slides, Keynote, Notion or any other tool. Napkin Slides is its own option if you want the whole deck generated. Per Napkin’s export help, a PowerPoint export keeps text and supported shapes editable, while images and Effects stay images, so check fonts and layout before you present.
Things to know before you use it
- Free visuals carry Napkin’s branding. Removing it is a Plus feature.
- AI disclosure. Napkin says some exports may carry machine-readable “AI-origin information,” and that it is separate from any disclosure you may need to make yourself when you publish.
- Your data. Napkin says it won’t use your data to train its models if you opt out of data sharing, and that its AI subprocessors are contractually barred from training on customer data (pricing FAQ). Don’t paste anything confidential without reading its policy first.
- Our own limits. We haven’t benchmarked output quality, so this page makes no claim about how its visuals compare with other tools.
