Find and cancel subscriptions you forgot about with Grok Bot
- One audit of one email account (12 months of receipts), cancelling a handful of plans, then a monthly report-only check for one month.
- Grok Bot is listed from the $30/month Premium plan, and each task uses the plan's shared weekly usage pool. xAI doesn't publish a cost per audit, cancellation or routine run, so none is priced.
- The Bot can only find subscriptions that leave a trace it can read, such as receipts and renewal emails in the account you connect. Plans billed to a phone bill, an app store or a card that never emails you may not show up.
1. Workflow
-
Write down what you think you pay for and set the rules before you open Grok Bot: which email gets your receipts, what you must keep, how far back to look, and that nothing is cancelled until you pick it.
- Tool
- Grok (any chat; Claude or ChatGPT also fine)
- Why
- xAI's Subscription Cleaner example says the Bot collates receipt and newsletter mail, suggests what to kill and unsubscribes what you approve, and xAI's docs say to tell the Bot which actions it can take and where it must stop, with purchases and financial changes named as places to set a boundary (xAI Bot use cases and docs: Approvals, security, and privacy, checked Oct 29, 2026). A short brief sets both before the Bot sees your inbox.
- Cost
- $0 on Grok Free (limited chat requests).
Paste into any free chatbot. You'll paste the first request it writes into Grok Bot in Step 3.

Update Grok Bot to 0.78.1 or later, connect only the email account that gets your receipts (Connect apps in the sidebar), and start the Find unused subscriptions template if your account shows it. Otherwise, add the Subscription Cleaner from xAI's use cases page or just use your own Bot.
- Tool
- Grok Bot app
- Why
- The Grok Bot changelog for v0.78.1 (Oct 27, 2026) says the Find unused subscriptions template cancels plans you pick from the ones you still pay for, Watch subscription prices checks renewal prices, and Bots can cancel a subscription or look up its price and renewal date and confirm with you before changing anything (checked Oct 29, 2026). xAI's use cases page lists a Subscription Cleaner with an Add to Grok Bot button (checked Oct 29, 2026). The changelog doesn't say where the template appears in the app.
- Cost
- Grok Bot is listed from Premium ($30/month); it is not listed on Free or Plus.
-
Run the audit: paste the first request from Step 1 (or the prompt below) and let the Bot build a numbered table of what you still pay for, with prices and renewal dates. It should only look in this step.
- Tool
- Grok Bot
- Why
- Per the v0.78.1 changelog, Bots can look up a subscription's price and renewal date (checked Oct 29, 2026). xAI's docs say Auto-review counts what you asked for in your own messages, and that text from an email or a web page doesn't count as your request (xAI docs: Approvals, security, and privacy, checked Oct 29, 2026). A look-only instruction in your own words keeps the audit from turning into changes.
- Cost
- Uses your plan's shared weekly usage; xAI doesn't publish a cost per task.
Paste into a one-to-one chat with the Bot you set up in Step 2, after the email account shows Connected.

-
Pick what goes: reply with the numbers to cancel, approve each cancellation on its card, and keep the cancellation log. Anything that needs a phone call or an app store setting, do yourself from the page the Bot gives you.
- Tool
- Grok Bot
- Why
- The changelog says Bots confirm with you before changing anything (v0.78.1, checked Oct 29, 2026). Grok Bot's help says an approval card's Allow once runs the action without saving a rule, Deny stops it, and some cards warn This can't be undone (Cursor help: Approvals and Auto-review, checked Oct 29, 2026). xAI's Vault docs say a Bot never sees a saved password or card number (checked Oct 29, 2026).
- Cost
- Uses your plan's shared weekly usage. The money you save depends on what you cancel and isn't priced here.
Paste into the same chat as Step 3, so the Bot can see the numbered table.

Stop it happening again: set up a monthly report-only routine (or the Watch subscription prices template) that flags new charges, price rises and trials about to bill. Run one Test, then leave it.
- Tool
- Grok Bot (routines)
- Why
- The v0.78.1 changelog lists Watch subscription prices, which checks renewal prices, and Try it, don't pay for it, which starts a free trial and cancels it, or reminds you, before it bills (checked Oct 29, 2026). xAI's routines docs say to confirm the schedule and time zone, the input source, the approval boundary and what happens when a source is missing, and that routines run in the cloud while your laptop is closed (xAI docs: Skills and routines, checked Oct 29, 2026).
- Cost
- Each run uses your plan's shared weekly usage; xAI doesn't say how many runs a plan covers.
Paste into the same Bot chat once your cancellations are done.

Lock it down: in Settings → General → Auto-review, add Ask first rules for cancelling subscriptions and for purchases, and don't press Always allow on a cancellation card.
- Tool
- Grok Bot settings
- Why
- Grok Bot's help says an action that matches one of your Ask first rules always gets a card, that Always allow saves a rule so similar actions run on their own, and that cards raised by a routine or other background work expire after 30 minutes (Cursor help: Approvals and Auto-review, checked Oct 29, 2026).
- Cost
- $0.

3. Total cost
Unpriced items are left out of the total (marked “cost not sourced”), so the real total is higher. All totals are our arithmetic from sourced unit prices.
Cheapest route
$30.00 before unpriced items
Our arithmetic: sum of the sourced line items only; lines marked 'cost not sourced' are excluded, so the real total is higher.
Cheapest route: write the brief in free Grok, then audit, cancel and set the monthly check on one month of Premium. If you already pay for Premium, this costs nothing extra beyond usage.

Step 1 audit brief: Grok Free: $0.00
Our arithmetic: Grok Free plan = $0 (our arithmetic)
Free has limited chat requests; one planning chat fits.

-
Steps 2-6 Grok Bot audit, cancellations and monthly check: Grok Premium (The X Subscription), 1 month: $30.00
Our arithmetic: Premium $30/month billed monthly × 1 month = $30 (our arithmetic)
Premium is the lowest plan that lists Grok Bot and cloud agents & automations, with 4x Plus usage from a shared weekly pool. Prices exclude taxes; xAI says to cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid another charge.

Best-quality route
$30.00 before unpriced items
Our arithmetic: sum of the sourced line items only; lines marked 'cost not sourced' are excluded, so the real total is higher.
Best route: the same plan, plus the Watch subscription prices template or the Step 5 routine running every month, and Ask first rules on cancelling and buying. Check after a month whether the plan pays for itself in cancelled subscriptions.

All steps, including the Watch subscription prices template: Grok Premium (The X Subscription), 1 month: $30.00
Our arithmetic: Premium $30/month billed monthly × 1 month = $30 (our arithmetic)
One audit and a monthly check are light work. Super ($100/month, 15x Plus usage) is only worth it if you also use Grok Bot heavily every day.

6. Caveats and assumptions
- Grok Bot 0.78.1 is rolling out. If you don't see the subscription templates after updating, the same steps work with your own Bot and the prompts above; xAI doesn't say where the templates appear in the app.
- The Bot only finds what it can read. Plans billed through an app store, a phone bill or a card that never emails you may be missing, so check your card or bank statement too.
- We couldn't confirm which services the Bot can cancel on its own. Some only let you cancel by phone, in their own app or in an app store's subscription settings; the Bot should skip those and tell you how.
- A cancellation often keeps the plan running until the end of the period you already paid for. Don't count on a refund; xAI's changelog says the Bot cites only protections it has read and doesn't promise refunds.
- Try it, don't pay for it starts a free trial for you. Trials often need a card and bill automatically, so set the reminder and check the service's own terms.
- Approve each cancellation yourself. Don't press Always allow on a cancellation card, because that saves a rule that lets similar actions run without asking.
- Connect only the email account you need, and remove access afterwards if you don't want the monthly check.
- Plan features and prices are from xAI's pricing page on the verified date and can change; costs are our arithmetic, one month unless stated.
