Grok Bot can now find and cancel subscriptions you forgot about. What it does, and what's still unclear

What happened

xAI's Grok Bot changelog lists version 0.78.1, dated Oct 27, 2026, under the title "Shopping cards and subscription templates". Alongside product cards and Shop Pay, it adds three templates aimed at the money you lose quietly every month.

Find unused subscriptions cancels plans you pick from the ones you still pay for. Watch subscription prices checks renewal prices. Try it, don't pay for it starts a free trial for you and cancels it, or reminds you, before it bills. The changelog also says Bots can now cancel a subscription or look up its price and renewal date, and that they confirm with you before changing anything.

How the safety net works

Cancelling is an action you can't always undo, so it goes through Grok Bot's approval system. Its help page says an action that matches one of your Ask first rules always gets a card, and that text from an email or a web page doesn't count as your request. That matters for an inbox full of renewal notices and retention offers.

One thing to avoid: pressing Always allow on a cancellation card. It saves a rule, so similar actions run on their own next time. Cards raised by a routine or other background work expire after 30 minutes instead of waiting for you.

What it doesn't tell you

The changelog doesn't say where the templates appear in the app, which services the Bot can cancel by itself, or how it handles plans billed through an app store or a phone bill. We couldn't test it on this site's own accounts, so treat it as promising but unproven. The Bot can only find subscriptions that leave a trace it can read, such as receipts in the email account you connect.

Don't expect refunds either. An Oct 26 changelog entry says the Bot cites only protections it has read and doesn't promise refunds. Grok Bot itself is listed from the $30/month Premium plan, so the audit only pays off if you cancel more than that.

How to use it

Our new playbook runs the whole thing in order: write a short brief in a free chatbot, let the Bot list what you pay for without touching anything, cancel only the numbers you pick, then set a monthly report-only check. Every chatbot step has an interview-style prompt you can copy.
