How the picks work
- Only tools we already compare. Each pick, reason and plan line is copied from our comparison pages, playbooks and price checks, with the date we checked it. We have not tested these tools ourselves.
- Budget is a filter, not a ranking. "Free" keeps tools whose plan page lists a usable free tier; "Under ~$25/mo" adds tools with a listed plan or pay-as-you-go rate under that. Tools whose price we haven't checked only show under "Any budget".
- Level sets the order. The order is our editorial reading of who each vendor says the tool is for (for example, a terminal agent goes first for advanced users, a chat app first for beginners).
- Gaps are marked. We haven't compared research or automation tools head to head yet, so those show what our data has and the playbooks to follow, not a ranking.
